Abstract

The purpose of this study focuses on parental participation in school activities at General Secondary School No. 193, located in Crucecita, Bahías, Huatulco, Oaxaca. The research seeks to analyze the importance and impact of parental participation on students' academic and social development. Various aspects of participation are addressed, including attendance at school meetings, participation in cultural events, support with homework, and communication with teachers.

Preliminary results suggest irregular and partial parental participation, with a majority indicating that their involvement is limited to certain moments, such as occasional meetings or some activities, but does not extend consistently to daily academic support or constant supervision of homework and school materials. Despite these limitations, students perceive parental involvement as essential to their academic performance, although significant barriers exist, such as lack of time due to work commitments and insufficient communication from the school.

The study also highlights that a lack of parental involvement can have negative effects on students' academic performance, as many express that greater parental involvement would positively contribute to their educational success. Consequently, the research seeks to provide recommendations for improving collaboration between schools, parents, and the community, fostering more active participation that benefits students' overall development.
