This article aims to analyze how sustainability has been addressed in the mining sector through a systematic review of recent academic literature. To do so, we used a qualitative and descriptive approach, reviewing studies published between 2021 and 2025 in the Scopus, Scielo, and Google Scholar databases. The reviewed research demonstrates a growing interest in incorporating responsible practices that mitigate negative impacts on the environment and promote local development. Common challenges are also identified, such as the weak implementation of environmental regulations, the need to strengthen community participation, and the key role of technological innovation. It concludes that, although significant progress has been made, gaps persist in the effective coordination of public policies, business strategies, and social expectations. This review provides a critical perspective on current trends and limitations surrounding sustainability in the mining sector, offering avenues for reflection for future research and more inclusive and sustainable policies.
